Weapon smithing is a crafting profession in Ashes of Creation.[2][3]
Skills and stats on weapons
Crafters will be able to assign different skills/abilities and stats on gear.[4][5]
- Crafters will be able to 'rejigger' stat blocks; and there will be a couple of other ways to move things around to create both the look and the stat block that you're looking for. It's not always going to be easy. There will be a lot of challenges involved with that. But the goal is to give you guys the option to customize your gear the way you want them to be.[4] – Jeffrey Bard
- Master crafters will be able to influence several (but not all) stats on their crafted items.[4][6]
- Stats on crafted items will vary based on the item's rarity.[7]
- There will also be methods of moving stat blocks around but this won't necessarily be an easy task.[8][4]
- All gear will be able to be assigned any stat.[4]

Gear is broken down into Core Stats and Additional Stats.[9]

Different weapon types offer different passive skills and proc effects from their weapon skill tree as well as different waterfall stats.[11]
- Axes (One and two handed).[12]
- Bows.[12]
- Clubs.[13]
- Daggers.[12]
- Hammers.[14][15]
- Lances.[16]
- Maces (One and two handed).[12]
- Orbs.[17][12]
- Polearms/Halberds.[12]
- Scepters.[18]
- Shields.[12]
- Spears (One-handed).[19][20]
- Spellbooks.[17][12]
- Staves.[12]
- Swords/Rapiers (One and two handed).[12][21]
- Wands.[17][22]

The following weapon types are not equippable by players in the MMO.
- Crossbows will not be in the MMO.[23][24]
- Previously crossbows were present in Ashes of Creation Apocalypse.[25][26]
- Potion launchers will only be able to be used as ship attachments in the MMO.[27][28]
- Previously potion launchers were present in Ashes of Creation Apocalypse.[26][29]
