[Music] [Laughter] welcomed from the ashes the dungeon crawler Network podcast all about Ashes of Creation by intrepid Studios bear witness to the rebirth of the MMORPG genre from the ashes of an industry that has left the gamers behind I am your host as jell-o's founder of the dungeon crawler network and I am joined by my amazing co-host here at the mighty beard tavern we've got storms Lord hey how's it going hey pretty good and Alpha's old great to be here great to be here krojack can we get some pogs in the chat for the person who's above my head right now and we are joined by the one and only CEO and creative director at Intrepid Studios Steven Shareef how are you hey guys I'm very good happy to be here well we're glad to have you and finally for those watching I do have a beer now thank you tavern lady who brings me the beers I do think you need a bigger bug though I think I do it's not enough by the way I just want to apologize that I brought the the stream difficulties plague with me totally blame you and not a jealous at all yes all I can say is I have never seen that error before until it even came in that's all I'm sayin like something happens oh I know I don't really believe in curses but I'm starting to wonder hey I didn't do anything no that's it anyway we got a fun show planned for you guys tonight well we have Steven here which is great and a little bit of a surprise to everyone because I got a message from Steven yesterday going hey I hear you're doing a show tomorrow I go well yeah every Thursday 9 o'clock twitch.tv slash dungeon crawl Network the entire thing is great yes maybe you want to have a guest I go yeah sure like I'm gonna say no to the CEO of the company assumption Wow I know I was a little too um I think like I won't ever say no but it is funny because normally whenever we have Steven on were a little bit more prepared with different things and I frantically was like yes and then immediately went and said guys he's coming on we need stuff to talk about so we uh we hammered out a few things I think it'll be fun what we do have some new stuff like we will be showing off a new armor which I am in love with even though I did have to check to make sure it wasn't posted on April 1st thankfully it was April 5th I did have a minor heart attack when I saw it and someone's like I think it's April 1st I'm like you gotta be kidding me the best part is most people know I I dislike most of the super fantastic fantastical armors I'm more realist I had no less than 20 people DM me that picture when it came out so oh yeah it's pretty amazing I saw it instantly thought of jell-o's yep a lot of people did apparently and it was fantastic anyway we also have the know your nodes and the scientific talk oddly enough whoever sent out the marketing email stole my title because I had blinded by science and then they sent that out I'm like I'm I'm gonna have to have it out with whoever whoever did that because they're stealing my pun titles and I'm not happy about it we're gonna talk about that and we do have some questions and whatnot and of course if we see any good questions in the chat maybe we'll talk about I don't know we'll see anyway you just opened a can of worms saying that I only have a be flooded will answer your email soon TM nice yeah I like it we'll get to it anyway guys let's go ahead and jump right on into this because hey why not right that anyway so first up I'm gonna show off this beautiful image that was shown on the discord on the 5th of April not April 1st and is it that really boring looking armor shut up you shut your dirty whore man I am in love with this armor and as most people know I like more realistic looking stuff albeit what scared me so much when I saw this didn't really cross my mind until someone mentioned hey that looks like the Alliance armor with the lion on the front I'm like oh my god is this April 1st yeah but it's a bank I can see that a little bit yeah mainly because of the lion right that that the lion and the like a bird like if it were any other colour it probably wouldn't have been yeah the Alliance thing yeah the imagery wouldn't be a vote oddly enough if you go to the reddit they posted this and this got a lot of uploads you should go look at it because a lot of people like this anyway for those of you listening on iTunes stitcher radio Google Play Spotify or SoundCloud there will be a link in the description below that you could click and view this beautiful marvelous piece of work I love it so much I so yeah now Steven tell us a little bit about this since you can sure so this particular armored set actually was modelled over a year ago and it was present in both one of our packs builds that we took with us I think to PAX West in 2017 and was also in alpha 0 as well but what's been changed is the shader on the metal materials have been updated the materials themselves have also been updated and the [Music] the textures on the armor have been redone a little bit to kind of bring it up to speed with where the project's current art is at we the team's been going through some of the old alpha zero stuff and bringing it up to speed a little bit for implementation into alpha one interesting now you were talking a little bit I know there's some conversation about the what was it the bondage spandex I think that's what the term I saw the apocalypse armor has been dubbed what was it it was space-time spandex or something fun like that I loved it yeah I have to find the quote it's on reddit and I really loved it and I thought it was very that's great but you were talking the difference in the lower side of things between what we're seeing here versus what we were seeing in a POC you wanna like yeah I think that you know there are nine different cultures that are active at the time of the MMORPG gameplay but there are also four parent races that were present during the apocalypse on vera so essentially there's 13 distinction directions from an art standpoint with different armor sets and architectures and that creates a very vibrant atmosphere for a lot of different types of styles so what you see commonly in apocalypse is the influence of both the alien and the period cultures which are the parent races of the humans and the elves and there's a there's a yes there's a lot of asymmetry that's present in that design philosophy for the armor sets you know more akin to kind of Eastern influences I would say so what you're seeing here is a representation of the KLR which is one of the human derivatives hmm and you know this has a more symmetrical more traditional kind of appearance I want it you're like a man starving for food and you've just been given a morsel and yours inhaling it right now because all of you there Armour has nothing to do with your style this is probably even nicer armours out there that are similar to this but even more attuned to what you like but you're so hungry for stuff you're just glomming on this one Mord this this phone background right now just really and another I mean another aspect about the particular armor you're seeing here is this is actually guard armor that's in the in the game currently in the MMO so you know this is not even the dial-up kind of version of this style that would be more attainable with higher levels for characters now this armor can be attained by players through doing some in-game questing and you know they could become a member of that knights order per se and as a result gain the cosmetic of their uniform and applied to their armor and then there's you'll see I think I think Margaret's preparing a little blog about you know how armor like this comes to be right for the game from concept to to creation and whatnot but you'll also you know there are elements of it that can be changed like the colors even perhaps the types of metals that are used or the pauldrons can be swapped out stuff like that I want it can i dial it down can I get a more a less elegant version of this so it depends on what you attribute its elegance to if if the fabric on the on the tunic and dresses what you consider elegant that would probably not be changed however the pieces with the the guards the plating the pauldron that are on the shoulders you might be able to remove those distinct pieces and and perhaps dial down the the silhouette of the armor itself you know I'd say they're just a little too busy for me and someone in chat goes jealous just wants this armor with a rusty short sword and a wooden shield all right we'll move off of this because otherwise I'm just gonna gush about the armor and how much I'm so glad that we're seeing realistic looking armor now rather than the space spandex or bondage spandex obviously not my thing but hey bring on this one actually is a good question before we jump into the scientific nodes and we have Stephen here there were a few questions that I wanted to kind of bring up because I think these are things that are important for the community of course my co-host anytime they want to throw something in they can do so one of the questions is with the forms being up today actually I feel like the forms were a very smooth transition for the single sign-on solution that you guys have implemented I know the single sign-on solution was one of the reasons why the forms took a while also part of the thing that was keeping the backend the backend rework that you guys were doing with the single sign-on being pushed through we're curious how the backend restructure is going mm-hmm so there's a few components that relate to the backend there's the game backend there's the server architecture and there's the platform back-end that relates more towards you know account services and whatnot the single sign-on feature touches a lot of different things and you know our forums and if you believe a blog was posted about about the forums and the process that goes into you know creating a single sign-on feature and you know the priorities that were currently ahead of getting the forms back up and running for the platform team but you know single sign-on feature allows us to to really touch all the interactions that need to be had for future plans with the website for your account for the ability to log in at a single point and access all of those things with regards to the backend of the of the game a lot of progress has been made actually over the past few months with you know player population count that we want in single zone our migration from Asher over to AWS that was a big one and also standing up different the different grid architecture that we had in place to accommodate both the matchmaking process as well as seamless travel between zones in our open world MMORPG in preparation for alpha one so there's been a lot of progress that's been made you'll see you'll see some developer Diaries and blog posts that kind of you know expand a little bit more on the specifics of that progress in anticipation for alpha one and I think Margaret has some plans for that stuff beautiful and I know um Bob doli and Chad he's he's a pretty cool guy I think some of the times anyway he did ask this question I think that actually kind of lines up a little bit with what you were saying with the backend as you mentioned it's stress test the previous ones often regressed weekend a weekend they seem to have difficulty by second major crashes what is their continuous integration strategy Wow Bob that's an insanely in-depth question I'm sorry you cut out a little bit for me what was that question one more time I'm sorry if I the previous test ones we have when the old network architecture seemed to rest over time like you were able to hit different points but server performance obviously suffered hence the reason why you're having to do a back-end rework in the first place what is your continuous integration strategy going forward with your new new back-end right so as we you know continue to build out the new back-end you know goes through different testing processes with QA to try to push the boundaries and the limits of the new architecture and eventually we will open that testing up to the community to stress it even further but right now it's still an iterative process and development where you know we'll push it forward to QA we'll get the data that we need and then expand upon that development beautiful I know that's just that's something I know a lot of the communities interesting cuz as we discussed Priya while we had a lot of hate when a POC was up all I hear now is when a pot coming back coming back you know the the I think a lot of it was on us with regards to messaging but again you know what was the purpose of a POC the purpose of a puck was to identify and test key components of the MMORPG that are required in order for us to hit an alpha one with the number of players that we expect to see on a single server so you know a lot of that a lot of it was very successful in that regard because it identified those key components that needed work earlier than then where we would have been had we not tested and it become more integrated that would have been a much more difficult refactoring which is again the reason why we moved the original alpha one date up and split it into two phases and also you know testing the combat mechanics in order to create that hybrid system you know these were all things that got achieved with a box I was very very beneficial despite sorry Mike you might hear my dog sneezing in the back [Laughter] she's you know she broke into the we have these like mints and she broke into the mint bag if you can see them but these like these little mints and she broke into the mint bag and has been all day while I was at the office was eating mints so now she's sneezing like crazy Altoids curiously strong yeah we are not we are not supported by Altoids but we will do that anyway all right last question on this before we move into the know your because this is something I was thinking of and also people in there when you get your back-end and obviously we're not going to give any dates so if anyone's here looking for an ETA that's not gonna happen sorry bye-bye with the backend and how that's coming along we also know that work is being done on the castle siege when the back and gets set up and a POC comes back out are we still gonna have just the be our moat or do you guys think knock on wood that siege our horde mode made a company in a fairly short order so I don't have an answer for that now we will see and we're definitely you know continuing work on those components because they are components that relate not only to apocalypse but also to alpha one but there may be systems excuse me there may be tech that we want to test that doesn't require necessarily the siege mode to be a part of that test so you know we'll see on that I think that's something we'll probably reveal later can't say I didn't ask right know for sure you'd want to do something different for the first round of testing anyways you've refactored all that and you want to put it out in my opinion into the outside for testing you're gonna want it to be equivalent to what it was before to see their response to see how it works differently right I guess that's the that would be the you know definition of a kind of controlled setting when it comes to QA is that if you were to implement a new mode during that test you you might experience a whole host of different bugs and/or issues that would complicate the testing of a particular component that relates to our refactoring yeah that's a that's a good point as well storms Lord okay let's go ahead and move on into the newest know your nodes the scientific and Margaret I do have a bone to pick with you because you stole my blinded by science title I know I was gonna say the concept was so good what bone do you possibly have to pay she's dealing my pun title oh you poor things you know you have to be creative on your own I told Stephen before you guys hopped in I was like what can I do and I thought oh weird science but no one would probably get that movie because it's from 1985 and it's about kids making like a sex robot anyway I was even born come on oh that's not my fault anyway alright before we jump into the scientific node and everything that it entails I do have a question that kind of coincides with us know your nodes and we brought it up in previous shows and I want to hear Stephens answer to this how is Ashes of Creation and trêpa to do 'he's going to handle metagaming since all of your notes are static so I guess it depends on what type of metagaming you're looking to avoid all right if it's if it's a matter of information you know the node infrastructure and the location of those nodes are not something that we want to change because when it comes down to I mean there's a there's a blend in design of procedural and curated content and when it comes down to being able to curate particular content to the region the area you're around particular points of interest that might be nearby of a particular nodes location those those node types are going to need to be static right and and that is a form of meta if you're able to identify hey we know a science node exists over here or we know you know an economic node exists over here so let's rally our guild and/or the community and make sure that we can level those up but because we want to access this particular item or this particular enchantment and that kind of becomes the the meta that a group of people might adhere to we can't necessarily stop that right no matter what we did even if we were fully procedural you know they're still going to be certain gameplay mechanics that that yield a result after a certain action and players will then tend to do those circles if it comes down to you know whether or not there is a meta that must be followed in order to succeed at something that's what we want to try to avoid right we want to prevent we want to provide many paths to a solution and/or an outcome that all have a variable way to achieve that outcome or solution and in that sense we provide the players not a need to adhere to the meta but a whole flexible host of solutions that they can they can play incentivizing the community to take different paths as opposed to just a one best path oh absolutely right yeah I mean that's that's the cornerstone of of a dynamic design right is that you know all paths are relevant in a sense and provide something to everyone and also making sure that there's interdependencies between the systems right that and that make them required to be taken in order to achieve at certain things collectively okay cool yeah no my greatest fear is like during the Alpha you know it's gonna happen people are gonna find out okay node that spawns in grid a1 is always a military node and therefore what we'll see is a meta forming of okay well the best military node is always here best economic is here bla bla bla bla bla because location yeah the nodes can stay that wasn't something that you know I like hey you always know nodes gonna pop there but I know my preconceived notion was that it was random what NPCs would show up so like if you were a group of players who want a military node you're doing your stuff like we know what node spawns here it's gonna make an amazing node we're gonna love it it'll be great you know we'll call it Whoville we'll be awesome and then all of a sudden you got all these book nerds showing up and you're like great no that's a little devastating and the also cool part is I think it would have revolved around the meta of because see just don't happen until there's an actual town you now have to go great now do we continue leveling this up or do we go somewhere else because we don't you know we might get vassals sooner than we wanted but hey also I wondered the dynamic nature of the rest of the world will help encourage people to not always pick this one spot for military 107 time because it's corner for the best for example how resources get used up and then shipped around the world may force who is the community to go you know what this node was amazing but that ore is gone now some made this note isn't so good anymore so hopefully the dynamic nature around the nose will encourage people to not just pick this one spot one hundreds at a time yeah part of part of what we want to simulate when it comes to not only the movement of goods and the routes that are taken at certain choke points or the availability of see trade routes but also the spawning and location of resource nodules that might exist in the world right having that randomized and spawn differently when depleted and whatnot that kind of moves activity away from nodes which is why there's an atrophy system and if activity moves away from one node because the mithril mine is depleted you spawn the location elsewhere and this node begins to atrophy due to a lack of activity or interest or traffic in the area and that's fantastic that replicates real life with coal mining and things like that in our own culture that's fantastic I was I had a question sort of related but I I don't want to divert just too much from the agenda does it relate to what we're gonna talk later if not whoops yeah so the question that I had was will all five metropolis is once they're maxed out cover the entire world correct you know the world is regionalised into five regions that five metropolis is we'll be able to cover from a surface-area standpoint and since okay since this also sort of fits in here this is from oh I cannot set enough I'm gonna call you said enough that's what I'm gonna do do city runes from a node show up when it's destroyed so like if a metropolis actually gets burnt down is it just an empty grass again or is it going to be like hey we get to plunder these runes for two weeks before it goes back to nothing no there will be there will be things that are present at that nodes location for a period of time following the siege and then afterwards it will be a fresh area for the node to be resettled beautiful all right moving into the blog post of the scientific node and what makes things different this was pretty neat right off the bat because of the idea of what a scientific node actually is gonna bring to the world especially related to artisanship and construction mechanics and I know if anyone wants to read the entire blog post I encourage you to check out this entire series I know we had mentioned it in the past some of the earlier ones it's a rehash of some of the older information but it's a perfect step in the right direction because it wasn't all on the website before and now it is that's good there was a lot of good information in this one specifically and some of the questions that I had right off the bat just right off the essence you called it and used a capital e which makes me think that yeah yeah that stood out to me proper name does this actually play a role with with in-game mechanics or just like a lore idea behind the idea of ley lines no it does play a role the essence is an integral mechanic within the game as it relates to a variety of materials reagents the source of particular power and/or energy required on certain items and skills you know this is the foundation of magic in the universe it is the driving force and energy that's utilized and manipulated to heal the result that can either be good bad or neutral depending on the crafter and/or manipul interesting interesting I was curious like I'm gonna bring up because you said we could talk about this I'm gonna bring up what other games are doing and this is another game in development I don't know a lot of people may have heard of it so maybe not called Pantheon rise of the Fallen it's a Brad McQuaid game whether whatever you think about Brad McQuaid I don't know but we won't get into that that's not the question the question was one of the things that they're actually doing within the game and what made me think the essence may play a bigger role and that's why I was curious is they're actually having these manna fields in the world that are these saturation points essentially of ley line magic and when you go into those it actually requires you to build up some form of resistance before you can actually go close to these areas are you'll suffer a negative effect that's kind of what I was aiming towards when I was curious if the essence played a role in the world other than just from a lore perspective is that a form of gating a form of like gear gating and content gating by saying you can't go into this section until you reach a certain level of power no it literally in pantheon it's more of an idea of you need to be prepared before going in it's like a survival game where you're going into the frozen north of Canada you better bring a jacket right rosin north of Canada I mean that's the idea behind it so when I read the essence I was curious about that yeah I wouldn't say that the essent essence directly relates to any ability to traverse area explore or enter locations or points of interest I would say that the essence is more closely aligned with the usage of skills the the creation of certain items the presence of certain influences and where certain certain NPCs and or antagonists might be located centralized you know it definitely is a large lower mechanic so but I wouldn't say it's prohibitive in that sense gotcha cool gotcha excellent did some storms you've been kind of quiet do you have the notes open you want to actually read the next question down the line no I don't so okay well you listen okay is it the one that ya got island yeah okay so request so within a scientific note specifically requesting aid in finding alchemy our chemical or natural reagents will know types have a very specific way to level them will any activity level them oh so basically what we're wanting to know is will any activity within a note level that note rather than just gathering reagents for a scientific note if you will so any activity that yields experience to a player will yield experience to the node if done within that nodes zone of influence I think the reference of collecting out chemical yeah items and/or reagents that's really more the thematic component of the quest lines that are going to be experienced within those particular node types and that's going to tend to attract players who are interested to that end and and that was what the essence of the question was I highlighted that line because you mentioned scientific notes so it's like okay so your quest generator system is now gonna go okay we're a scientific node you go pick plants yeah if I decide I don't want to go pick your flowers I want to go stab something am I still gonna level the node are they gonna be like no I really just has wanted that flower and you didn't get yes you'll still level a node if you stab things okay because the the node you know the concept behind the development of these cities is that hmm they benefit from activity around it and any activity that's done which is fruitful in a sense experience-wise helps to create that city hmm okay yeah no I was just really curious if if the type of activities of the node wants is directly related to type of nodes so therefore if you're like I want to quest in this node but all the Questor like videos life skills go may go pick me some flowers or something both do that and not all of the quests are going to be related to that specifically like picking flowers or finding reagents whatever like for example you know hmm if the quest lines relate to like alchemical items and/or reagents you might receive a quest early that says you know color go collect you know a portion of these of the SAP that's found in a local forest our scholars want to examine this and then later on you may find that you know some antagonist or a monster or you know nefarious activities being done with this SAP go kill these people explore what they're trying to accomplish with this with manipulating the essence in this way using the SAP right so relates a gag comes back to it's not like a collect the SAP necessarily but it comes back to something that has to do with a scientific interest and that can that includes combat it includes gathering it includes grounding it includes all the components that make you know progress in different in different aspects of the game all right so in reality you know like you were saying and I see chats going so regardless of what kind of activity even if it's like mostly PvP experience it's still gonna pop a scientific node that will continue to grow that node correct beautiful is there any experienced activity that would lower the node other than not no activity at all yeah so for example if an event happens around the node you know some monsters get spawned and their objective is to attack the city and the players must defend the city you can have other players who may have an interest in helping to destroy that city or you know inhibit its ability to offer quest lines they could join up as a monster coin or whatever if those events are successful in killing certain NPCs and or destroying certain buildings they'll limit the nodes ability to offer quest lines and/or experience for certain activities which diminishes is its ability to contend with nearby nodes that may be fully functional in that regard additionally additionally there are no dwarfs node Wars can be declared against nodes and there are open world objectives and/or objectives that might exist within the city itself that if achieved will result in a loss for the node and there's losses can can modify incoming experience for a period of time afterwards that will reduce the amount of experience a node receives so Wars can be strategic in that sense that a rival node may want to prevent a certain node from the following week collecting as much experience as it would normally and can declare war in that sense there's also a couple other things as well but I'll save that for another one project Elise Morgan do you think of something you are speaking my language right now Steven the fact that you can inhibit the growth of other nodes that you're know can potentially get to the higher node level before anyone else is it just it's a mechanic that I'm so excited about in this game when a metropolis goes down and there's that race of the next metropolis your ability not only to increase row metropolis experience which would inhibit others that's phenomenal that's what I live for I love that I do have a question on that though I thought if you declare war and the loser loses I thought they'd go to zero that's a siege so there's differences a siege is when you you know you you've complete the the questing component and receive the item in order to declare the siege you declare the siege and there's a period of time in which people can participate attack the city attempt to you know raise their flag over the over there okay destroy it a war is more similar to like a guild war where the city factions so to speak which would contain its citizens the mayor may declare a war against the faction of the other node right and that puts them that puts the citizens in a state of war where they're openly PvP able in the world and it also provides objectives for them to achieve which doesn't result in the destruction of a city necessarily but it does result in benefits for the victor and lot losses for the loser got it got it okay that makes a lot that makes a lot more sense okay so I need to become mayor so I can declare war on every elven city shape moral domination sets forth that's right I love it construction this was something that we saw in there now I'm curious about construction because it's not something you normally see within an MMORPG normally because housing and whatnot is something that's not really contained or it's very instance whatever I'm curious if this is sort of a macro form of crafting mechanic that's only available to node management or is it actually like a legit player crafting profession and if it is a player crafting profession what is it going to provide to other players so construction is any mechanic that relates to buildings and that could be buildings within a node that are dictated by the either community or mayor and become building projects in order to render services available to the citizens and or non-citizens they also reflect buildings that players may build on their freehold which is sort of their personal plot that becomes a Tetris like game of placing buildings for you know different adjacency bonuses and professions or their processing capabilities and then it also relates to certain points of interests that exist in the world that will have a building related quests in order to bring those points of interest back to a state of construction so scientific nodes offer specific specific material components and or certificates that are necessary in order to capitalize on additional features of certain buildings and/or to activate the adjacency bonus systems that certain buildings have a progression path for so as you build your first building on your freehold let's say and that building is a you know an anvils blacksmith or whatever to work on their weapon crafting and/or armor crafting aspects it will yield certain benefits for those professions and/or processes and there will be a progression path that that building can take different tiers of upgrades and along that path of upgrades if it exists either in a scientific nodes zone of influence or if the character is capable whether through citizenship or through trade or questing with a scientific node is capable of achieving the certificates to unlock and empower those bonuses then the player has the capability of doing so because of the scientific note I'm too busy starting a war in shadow cool no I was curious about that all right so again a lot of people in chat talking about scientific nodes being very focused on crafting artisan classes and I also want you asked that one yeah yeah this was actually an another question that I actually had is there is the only way to unlock specializations or those higher tier specializations through you know the scientific nodes so will you'll be able to learn crafting anywhere but you know like anywhere but not as a like a generalist I guess you could say yes you will be able to not only learn advance and progress within the artisan tree regardless of the scientific note but there are certain mastery benefits that are granted even though those masteries can be achieved elsewhere it's a much more difficult path in order to do so and the masteries may not present the same results and/or yields that scientific masteries can be attained but it is possible yes gotcha gotcha all right so I'll pick up the next one here so in regards to knows their benefits there is a mention that benefits would only apply within their notes does that mean a citizen of a no that leaves the zone of influence will lose whatever benefits at once had so it depends on the benefit but generally as a rule there are certain benefits that are only applicable to within that zone of influence so if you want to if you want to benefit from from whatever buff or drop rate potentially increase or a higher yield of experience gain that all has to be done within the zones the zone of influence of the note that's granting the benefit hmm but there might but there are there are citizen benefits and those benefits may travel with you outside the zone as well so it's a combination of the two okay okay yeah cuz we had heard that before like you talked about when you leave a zone of influence or something along those lines that you may not get all those benefits but I'm like well I'm not leaving the node in terms of citizen I'm just traveling out about and there may be reasons to travel out and about which we'll talk about later as we hit the unique building discussion but it's like okay so the zone of influence only affects certain areas are you know what's once you step out of that COI that's controlled by that node you know do you lose all of its benefits but that's good that's good I like hear that moving on each each and every type of node has a specific building related only to it in this particular case we have at stage three you get a library which will I'll just go through this real quick then we want to discuss some of these things that are available each stage of this unique building gets everything that it had before plus new things but a stage sure you get a library with history of narrative events and when they occurred that's pretty cool locations and last known quantity of gather briefs or psa's locations and inhabitants of new dungeons and Pio eyes that have spawned runic power stones for armor and common weapon and armor recipes level 25 and under the college at number four gives you component identification for non legendary item deconstruction certificates for Tier one building schematics unique and rare drop information concentrated essences for the creation of armor enchantment stones runic power stones for weapons Kamen armor and weapon recipes for level 35 and common glyphs for creation of accessory equipment scrolls earth enhancement Scrolls University and Academy also have stuff up Hart up the list one of the things when you hit level 5 and this is something I wanted to talk about runic power stones can you actually give us an example of this because when I saw this right off the bat my first thought was wildstar and their power stone system of how they put gear in but can you give us an example of how this power stone or runic power stone will actually work or sure seen in other games yeah so the stone system whether they be power stones orange hamon stones there are slots that exist on armors and weapons that can receive a number of stones and these stones can do anything from augmenting the type of damage that the weapon does to adding ancillary effects on damage providing potential buffs and/or passives that are present there's a whole host of things that they can do and all of those things that these that the stones can accomplish for you in both armour and weapons there they exist in tears of relevancy in power and as you increase the grade of the of the item that you have available to you through the students or the headsets value as you increase the grade of the item that you own or craft through the use of material similar to kind of I think Jeff has spoken to this before how I really enjoyed the Star Wars Galaxies kind of crafting system and the uniqueness of quality that exists among resources you can increase potentially the number of slots that a particular item has available to its to its use runic power stones in particular these are temporary stones that occupy slots within armor and weapons so runic power stones you can apply for a period of time and it's usually those will be very situational because they are temporary but they grant you a certain benefits enchantment stones however our permanent stones these are you can unsoldered power stones are temporary placements and the enchantment stones are more permanent so they share the same sockets or the specific sockets mmm they share the same socket so really it's going to be a kind of a strategic decision by the player to occupy certain slots with the permanent stones that you may want and keep a variable amount of slots available so that you can have situational runic stones utilized if you're going to enter into a certain dungeon or fight certain boss or enter into PvP so that you can socket in temporary ones okay yeah yeah nope I was looking rojak had to leave the stream real quick cuz his audio wasn't working so I had to hide the cameras for those who are watching on YouTube and twitch and whatnot that we back as soon as krojack gets back on the screen alpha soul won't you handle these schematics these are things that are kind of interesting you get schematics as you go up on this list but what you know yeah so I'm actually kind of curious so dis command X refer to the free whole designs or like are they a part of you know management like what are can you explain a little bit more on the schematics sure so schematics are basically the blueprints that you utilize in order to build structures on a freehold or to build structures for community projects within the oh I actually did want to ask something that was granted to an earlier stage sure on history and the narrative events is in level 3 library basically you can go to the library it looks like and get a history of the narrative events do you mean a history of the NPC interactions or do you mean like a history of player interactions Guild X you know got into a trade war with Guild why you know like how what's what's the break up of that what is that it's a little bit of both actually so history of narrative events can relate to the downing of certain bosses it can relate to the progression of certain quest lines or meta quest lines based on the activity of the players in the community on the server it can also relate to you know mayor mayor's who've been elected I can relate to the destruction and or seeing their victory of defense on on castles and cities it can relate to certain area quests that pop up around the note as well it can relate to events that spawn monsters to attack the nodes mm-hmm that can there's a lot of different things that the history on the narrative events and when they occurred kind of become provided to the players should they choose to research that at the library you said choose to research you mean like it doesn't just come with it there is there a restriction say there is a component to this that requires the players to interact with the library on a quest path that allows them to take this information from the library so basically you got to get your library card first and then the second component of that is it also relates to for example locations and last-known quantity and gather both resources location on inhabitants and dungeons and points of interest this becomes an ongoing return feature that the player has when they go back to their town after their days of adventure of adventures and downloads that information into the library that then other players can benefit and learn the knowledge of so that's that's kind of the mechanic behind the library that's very interesting that's a milena to the API concepts I think we had talked about a while ago like this that's something that a lot of games do vaya like players come up with the API to have a little app that you know allows you to do that and it sounds like you know there was a kind of a restriction coming in for api's and it's actually has a place in the nodes itself so that's pretty cool all right I think we're almost ready for having our cameras back but we'll see cool now this is all gonna be related to how legendaries work we've seen there's a few things that you actually get as legendaries go up component identification for a legendary item deconstruction why you'd want to deconstruct the legendary item I'm not really sure but hey that's a thing the one thing I noticed is we have components for legendary item repair but there was also the oh where is it I just had it and now I can't find it it more or less it was saying you know the ledge Darry crafting spots and you're curious typing krojack I think he's trying to get your attention [Laughter] we called who the one no it was saying how that there was legendary glyphs for certain armor and weapons but oh there it is relic and legendary crafting vengeance it was once mentioned that legendary items require some component from each node type is that still the case and does that mean that you'll need to bring it all back to a scientific node to complete the crafting of an aforementioned item so I don't I don't want to reveal that specifically that's a pretty big design to kind of reveal but I will say that you know relics relics in particular are a very high component a high-grade component needed for you know several things and relics can be accrued by a node through its achievements and those relics can be granted on a limited basis for crafting among its citizens and not just scientific nodes have the ability to to create and or host relics as a matter of fact one of the primary incentives I think for PvP with nodes and the destruction of nodes is rating its reliquary but I would say that the legendary crafting benches that come online at the academy do relate in a way to needing to collect these components at all different metropolis types that's part of the system you know speaking about deconstructing like I notice I see chat talking about deconstructing a legendary in order to learn a recipe are there gonna be certain legendary you can't deconstruct because they're a one-time legendary are does deconstructing a legendary make it available to everyone on the server hmm so deconstruction mechanics relate to materials and unique components that can be taken out of an item so when you've when you destroy it you're gonna be taking those things now items and will yield within a range a random assortment of available deconstruction materials and/or components the identification mechanic that's present in the in the scientific node allows a player to identify before deconstruction what the deconstruction will yield from a particular item that's one of the benefits of the scientific note gaining these materials and or components from a legendary item helped in both crafting potentially these these types of items or lesser but high tier items as well so while let's say a guild might you know defeat array boss and yield that legendary item it's possible that if deconstructing the legendary item they might yield you know three weapons of the highest here just under legendary and that may be more beneficial to them mmm gotcha gotcha all right so I have a question is so let's just say there's no scientific note that's at metropolis level at level six server for some reason or another hasn't produced anyone who brought it up to that level does that mean that it's no longer possible to do things like repair legendaries i think you kind of answered the question before about obtaining mastery professions it becomes a little bit more convoluted or you know difficult to do that but then what about crafting Legendary's and relics is that no longer possible if you no longer if you don't have a level six scientific node that's on the server so there's there's two thoughts on that one is that it is possible ones that's not possible and that's something that needs to kind of be tested but um you know I lean more towards the it is it is still possible but it is extremely difficult to to achieve without the intended no development gotcha god yeah moving on to the last part of this document is of course the edition of Metropolis and their superpowers not unlike Marvel movie that I've never seen any of silenced everyone anyway that's pre-show I've never once watched a single Marvel movie and I really have no desire to scientific nodes get teleportation as well as airships hmm alpha mm yes all right so let's all right another hypothetical question here but basically I'm wondering what's stopping the Citizen of a vassal know let's say you have got a level level six scientific metropolis what's stopping a citizen of a vast unknown specifically of another scientific node from just upping and going into the larger scientific node you know that's there rather than stay in there like dissolving their citizenship and going and becoming a citizen of Metropolis exactly exactly so there's there's a few things yeah I think it's important to note that as you are a citizen of a node you're establishing reputation you're participating in societies organizations that are patrons of that particular node you're investing your time and energy in building out the freehold under that node or any ownership you may have in that node of certain properties of course we we don't necessarily want to restrict your ability to make a choice and leave but there are incentives and disincentives that are present in the system so some of the disincentives are by doing so one you're going to hear there's a cool-down period between your citizenship renouncing and being able to join another node as a citizen to the progress that you've made as a citizen and the reputation that you have within that node that changes interactions with NPCs that might yield you know discounted prices or access to unique items from merchants within that particular node you'll have to start over you know fresh in the new node that you're becoming a citizen of and then additionally you know losing out potentially on certain bonuses and/or buffs that you have as a result of title and/or achievement that you may have accrued over your time as a citizen in the previous node you'll have to start fresh wise and new node as well the other aspect of becoming a citizen of a node is that it does take into account the number of citizens that already exist at that node there are a certain cost taxation components that go into declaring citizenship and there's while there's not necessarily a cap to how many people may be a citizen of a particular node there is a soft cap in the price and/or resources required to become a citizen so to speak interesting the does that yeah actually if I can ask a follow-up question that does that with that soft cap or tax apply to anyone who's attempting to join after you know you've hit that soft cap or is gonna hit everyone with it so it applies so basically this kind of soft cap begins to scale so you know it may be very minuscule for the first 200-300 citizens that might become a part of a node and then it will incremental II increase after you reach a certain threshold and and continue going forward so that threshold may change if people be decide not to become a citizen and leave and it might come down a little bit but generally we want to kind of Institute mm-hmm a soft cap on how many citizens can be part of a certain node gotcha and those and those thresholds change among the different node stages and it's not retroactive so if you were to be citizen number 10 and you know your your commitment to the node was was you know X it would not increase with citizen number 300 becoming you would still be what it was when you joined it got it got it alright well that's gonna be the end of that discussion for that we have a do we have a few more minutes yet we can take a few questions from chat that I had written down I think we have a few minutes yet it needs to leave all right we'll make this quick because we're nearing the hour of our show anyway tonight I don't believe we will be doing a post show like we normally do because I need to make sure I can get all of this stuff corrected due to all of the issues we had today which I do think Steven issues there might be a curse on you because even krojack never encounter my computer doing that ever happened to me I didn't know what happened so he turn off turn on again yeah four times four times I tried that with OBS and it's like nope still not working yeah I need to need to work on that but again we were very appreciative Stevens time let's go ahead and hit some of these questions that aren't necessarily related to the nodes hopefully you guys got some good information and some clarification on that no thing I think we did got you know got a lot of good stuff anyway this is from mr. powers D asks can we get a confirmation if cosmetics are shown in PvP in the open world and can I make an addendum to that can we have a hide cosmetic option because I really don't want to see stuff Orton's running around so there is a default player appearance setting that players may activate yes and the reason for that is because in order to accommodate large player battles and hitting those particularly the particular performance requirements for players to be effective in those battles we want to mitigate the rendering that the computer has to achieve and by having a default player appearance we can significantly aid in the you know polygon count that might exist on a particular piece of cosmetic as opposed to the default appearance so yes there is that availability thank I'm just gonna have it on all the time it's great I was very worried about potentially a plate wearing class using a cloth appearing cosmetic to hide the fact that where it plate but if you could just turn it off and see that they're actually wearing plate that's fantastic mmm-hmm yeah that's what I want to see yeah cuz that was that was something that ESO happened because we talked about it in previous shows the way you approached someone wearing different armor in that game was important because you fought people differently if they were wearing certain types of armor a medium armor person he knew was just gonna be at dodge you know like a whack-a-mole because they're dodging all over the place but a common strategy when they first started adding in cosmetics and ESO was all the PvP guilds wore the wedding dress so you couldn't tell what anyone was wearing ever yep and that was a fear of mine yeah this is another question and unfortunately I didn't copy the name but kind of applies Ken crafters leave signatures on their work after a certain rarity level actually crafted items will by default contain the crafters signature unless they choose to turn it off Stephen a nameless crafter literally my name of my character nameless crafter regarding legendary items armor etc can anyone can anyone Oh can anyone obtain these items with enough luck and time are they just are are they just single dropped items meaning that if one person has it is gone for good so anybody can attain the item and there's I mean there's there's two references of legendary so there are legendary items and legendary unique items the legendary unique items are the only one on the server at a time type of item the legendary items there can be multiple of those legendary items available and anybody can attain any item I mean it there's multiple ways to attain them you could attain them through trade through craft through defeating world bosses through you know those types of things and that could happen I guess to anybody beautiful final question that I have here and this is from phantom Ram I don't know maybe you'll want to answer this and maybe you won't maybe you give us a hint because this may be something coming in the military node1 but it said that mayors of military nodes are chosen from citizens and gladiatorial style combat is this a sort of 1v1 tournament system that any citizen can sign up for so the the current design behind the gladiatorial arena should I explain this or will Margaret get mad and tell me she doesn't watch the show I don't never know no so the idea the idea yeah I should probably wait I should probably wait for the you know your god sell you to wait maybe I asked hey that's fine all right very cool real quick oh they're cooking profession yes there's a cooking profession you don't believe in cooking in Vera everyone's scrounges with their hands yes food raw over sink like an animal [Laughter] alright guys that's gonna be the end of our show this evening I want to thank well first off Steve and Sheree for coming onto the show once again really appreciate you doing that ya know it's always a pleasure having you on so thank
